Alaska King Salmon Fishing ~ Species Overview

King "Chinooks" salmon are the largest of the Alaska salmon species and are renowned for their tackle-testing runs and long sporting battles. Kings enter into Lake Creek in early June and good fishing continues into early July. The Alaska Department of Fish & Game closes Alaska rivers to King fishing typically on the 13th of July so they may productively spawn and complete nature's cycle. King Salmon typically weigh in between 20 - 40 lbs. In Lake Creek with trophies running in excess of 50 pounds up to near 70 in some cases. King salmon are popular among spin and fly fishing enthusiasts in our river system. Spey fishing has become extremely popular for fishing king salmon at our lodge. Our river is an ideal river for spey fishing for trophy kings. Many travel world-wide to our lodge for the combination of a good run of larger than average kings in a smaller, wadeable clearwater river system. Below are a few helpful printable documents giving an overview of king salmon fishing in Lake Creek, our home river system.
